Devastating News

The first week in October, we had our routine ultrasound and blood tests. Addison was measuring a little small for her gestational age and my amniotic fluid was low, but not too concerning...we were SO EXCITED to find out that we were having a sweet baby girl and we named her Addison McKinley Ward. Her daddy decided to call her Addie Mac :-) Then a week later, we received a call. The blood test came back abnormal. The next few days were a whirlwind, but we finally received a diagnosis through amniocentesis that our sweet little girl had Triploidy. Triploidy means the existence of 69 chromosomes (3 of each) instead of the normal 46. Addison inherited 2 sets from one parent and one set from the other instead of one set from each of us. We were told that this diagnosis was 100% fatal and that Addison would not most likely not survive the pregnancy, and would definitely not survive birth. We were offered the option to terminte our pregnancy at that time. In our hearts we knew that Addison was God's child and that we would continue to care for Addison for as long as God would allow it.
